Some rooms just hit differently — where the energy is thick with intention, the guest list reads like a leadership summit dream team, and the conversations are a masterclass in vision, legacy, and innovation. That was the vibe at the BlackRock Retirement Summit, a private, two-day event I had the honor of photographing at the historic Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC.
This wasn’t just any event. It was a summit designed to spark high-level conversations around the future of retirement, long-term investing, and building a financially secure tomorrow. And in true BlackRock fashion, the caliber of speakers matched the gravity of the topic.
Throughout the two days, I documented moments with some of the most respected names in leadership, including legendary coaches Nick Saban and Coach Mike Krzyzewski (Coach K), who brought their signature grit, humility, and game-day mindset to the stage. Their fireside chats on leadership, resilience, and legacy had the room hanging on every word — and capturing the intensity in their expressions was an absolute gift as a photographer.
Photographing Nick Saban and Coach K in conversation on legacy, mindset, and leading through pressure was one of those “remember this forever” moments.
But it didn’t stop there.
The summit also featured powerful insights from top executives like the CEO of BlackRock and the CEO of JPMorgan, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at how global financial institutions are preparing for the future of retirement and wealth. Their presence underscored the seriousness of the conversations happening in that room — and I was there to preserve those fleeting, powerful moments through my lens.
I also had the honor of photographing high-impact speakers like Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Senator Cory Booker, and Gayle King, who each brought a different dimension of perspective — from policy and social change to storytelling and media influence.
There’s something incredibly special about documenting events that aren't just well-produced but deeply purposeful. It’s about more than capturing a photo — it’s about capturing a moment in time where something meaningful was said, shared, and felt. For me, this wasn’t just an event. It was a rare convergence of influence, thought leadership, and legacy — and I’m honored to have played a part in how it will be remembered.
From keynote reflections to quiet conversations in between — the BlackRock Retirement Summit was filled with the kind of moments that define a room.
